Doing online business in Africa

Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, Shopify and Etsy are some of the big names in e-commerce. What if I told you none of these exist in Africa? You might say I am wrong, and you could be right. Some yes, do have a sort of blueprint in Africa but not much. Amazon does deliveries in eleven countries in Africa according to CNBC.

There is a partnership between eBay and MallForAfrica (MFA) in Kenya and Nigeria, eBay too faces the same fate as Amazon — Non-existent. As for AliExpress and Etsy, the less said the better. AliExpress boasts an average of two months…

Do not miss this one.

Missed opportunities.

You missed the gold rush, maybe because you were not born, or investing was a lot harder then. You missed the dot com boom, because why would anyone use the internet when there are tons of libraries around the place? Then you missed the early crypto boom of bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin because in the early 2010s you thought they were useless. In the late 2010s, you thought they were already overbought. If you are that person, I feel for you, but do not feel bad just now.

Let me assume you missed the low of the 2008 financial crisis…

Never bring emotions into the stock market

It is not long ago when everyone was waiting for the big squeeze, yet things have not yet squoze.

The hype is seemingly dying, and this means a lot of things to different people, hedge funds, retail traders and investors. As of yet, the decision of who won the battle is unanimous and will unquestionably stay like that forever. The roller-coaster ride has been thrilling to watch but there have been some causalities in the process.

I read a lot of stories two weeks ago of ecstatic young men and women who took loans from their parents, put all…

Toxic LinkedIn validation culture.

Welcome to LinkedIn, the platform that was created for “professional networking”. Seventeen years later since its establishment, LinkedIn has grown to more than 700 million users and is ranked the fourth most used social media. The question to whether LinkedIn is a social media still divides a few heads. It is okay to acknowledge LinkedIn for what it has accomplished without having to question its classification. The social media platform has made itself synonymous with ambitious and top individuals in their fields, but the reputation is slowly dying off — just a bit. More ambitious individuals…

Nature needs more trees.

Team trees

Having planted 7.1 million trees already with the goal of 20 million, Mr. Beast’s #teamtrees is seen as a savior. As much as his efforts are appreciated, planting 20 million trees is not enough. In the Sierra National Forest in California alone, an average of 15 million trees dies a year. This is without mentioning the Amazon and other forests in the world.

Mr. Beast is merely encouraging many young people to take care of the planet since he is in the limelight and has amassed a huge following.

His real name, Jimmy Donaldson, Mr. Beast is a…

Is California losing to Texas?

“If a team has been winning for too long, they do tend to get a little complacent, a little entitled and then they don’t win the championship anymore. California has been winning for too long”.

That was Elon Musk speaking about California late last year.

Elon Musk recently moved from Los Angeles, California to Austin, Texas. The Tesla man relocated to Austin after building what he calls a Gigafactory there. Oracle has moved its headquarters there and Apple is building its second-largest campus. Governor Abbott talked to TikTok about a possible American headquarters there, too.

Elon is one of the…

Would carbon-capturing reverse the effects of climate change?

The rate at which human beings are polluting the atmosphere is alarming. Factories, plants, and individuals all over the world pump as much as 36 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide a year into the atmosphere. Some estimates put this number as high as 50 billion tonnes a year. This could not be ignored any longer, since companies are reluctant to change their ways, they have resorted to buying carbon credits. It is obvious that it is cheaper not to emit anything in the first place than to buy carbon credits, but it’s profits over everything.

In recent times a technology…

These are unprecedented times

It is a crazy day. GameStop’s stock has more than doubled, and Reddit is down with a 503 HTTP Error. I do not know how often this happens but social media giants like Reddit have enough server capacity to handle a lot of users flocking to the site. It might just be a distributed denial of service attack. It is just incredible.

GameStop stock.

I had already written GameStop off when the price went below zero, but seems like the fight is back on. On the 24th of February when the article was written the stock price is at $91.71. The price…

Reasons to invest in medical psychedelics

If it is on the news, it is probably too late to invest in.

Medical psychedelics have all the reasons to become the next big thing. Research has been going on for a while and the FDA has given designation for studying the effects of psychedelics in major depressive disorders.

Famous people who have dabbled in psychedelics, specifically LSD, associate some of their greatest inventions and breakthroughs to it. Big names include Steve Jobs, who said that experimenting with LSD was “one of the two or three most important things he had done in his life.” …
